The problem

The business had been profitable for years on the back of trade shows, field reps and print catalogues. Then foot traffic fell off. The owner needed new leads but had little interest in digital marketing. The acronyms annoyed him. The intangibility concerned him more. He had spent decades paying for things he could hold, weigh or count.

The myth: B2B equipment buyers do not use Google. They buy through long-standing relationships and trade shows.

What we did instead: We did not argue with the philosophy. We built a campaign designed purely around buyers who were already searching for specific machinery at the exact moment they needed it, and we connected every click directly to revenue so the owner could see what his money was doing.

The playbook

  • Exact-match intent targeting: We ignored broad industry terms entirely. Every rand of budget went on searches for specific machine models, part numbers and equipment types that signalled a buyer ready to purchase. No awareness. No volume plays. Only the bottom of the funnel.
  • Spec-first landing pages: We stripped out all marketing language and built simple, fast loading pages built around equipment specifications, availability and a direct quote request form. The pages were written for someone who already knew what they wanted.
  • Revenue attribution from click to invoice: We connected every web form submission to the sales team’s inbox with tracking tags. The owner could open his email, see a lead come in, and trace it back to the exact search term that triggered it.

The moment it clicked

Three weeks in, a single ad click for a specialised manufacturing part turned into a R825,000 order from a buyer in another province they had never met. No trade show. No referral. No cold call.

What the client said

‘I used to think digital marketing was just agencies charging for clicks and likes. You guys actually showed me the cash register ringing.’

The payoff

By the end of the quarter, the campaign had produced R2.2 million in closed pipeline and more than tripled the volume of qualified inbound enquiries. The print budget, which had produced no attributable revenue in years, was reallocated entirely. The founder did not need convincing twice. The proof was in the numbers, and the numbers were in his inbox.
